Sounds like a plan spanish idiom8/24/2023 ![]() It can also be used more casually when complaining about something being boring. This expression is used very similarly to its English counterpart when referring to a person – ‘what a p*ssy’ or the more vulgar C-word ( though in Spanish it is not quite as rude and is more acceptable). ’Que coñazo!’, literally translated means “what a big vagina”. Expect to hear it said very nonchalantly among your Spanish friends! 9. As with most Spanish curses, ‘me cago en la leche’ sounds more vulgar when translated in English than it really is. They particularly like to shit in the milk – ’me cago en la leche’. Hypothetically shitting on something (’me cago’) is the most common way for Spaniards to express anger or frustration. There are many ways for you to curse in Spanish, especially when you are angry and just need to let off some steam. You could also say to ‘give someone a host’ – ’dar una hostia’, which means to smack or hit someone. ‘Hostia!’ on its own is used as damn, bloody hell and shit are in English. If someone or something is ‘la hostia’, it is amazing, awesome or great news. Hostia probably the most common form of blasphemy used by Spaniards as it is referring to the “host” or “body” of Christ. You say this when you want to express shock or surprise. There is also “¡Cágate!”, which is similar to the way we use “shit!” or “crap!”. This is a very popular term used by the younger crowd in Spain. When ‘está que te cagas’ is directly translated it makes almost no sense – it literally means something like, ‘you will shit yourself’ but in reality it is used like “that’s f*cking great”. ![]() ![]() If you think something is “the shit” or “awesome” you would say “es de puta madre!” 6. Though this expression can be used in many different ways, “de puta madre” is a great way of expressing a compliment. De Puta Madreĭirectly translated, “puta madre” means something similar to “mother fucker”. Which means, “ I don’t give three f*cks that you don’t like my car”. For example: Me importa tres cojones que no te guste mi coche. You can either not give one f*ck ( un cojon), or more commonly three f*cks ( tres cojones). “ Me importa tres cojones” or “ Me importa un cojon” is the Spanish equivalent of not giving a f*ck. We know this Spanish curse word was already mentioned, but this particular phrase deserves it’s very own spot. You have to work late tonight, Joder…You lost your phone, Jooderrr! You get the bill at an expensive restaurant, Jooooder! If you’re stressed, surprised or disappointed you can use joder to express almost any situation. Joderrrr! You’ve probably heard this more than a few times if you’ve been to Spain, or any Spanish speaking country for that matter! Joder’s closest English relative is the fan favourite “ f*ck!” as well as “ shit!” or “ damn.” Though it’s not nearly as vulgar, it is just as versatile. It is an incredibly diverse word here in Spain and is often used as an incredible insult – “ Ese tío es un gilipollas.” It can be very strong when not handled in a playful manner. Someone who just doesn’t think before doing something obviously stupid. Directly translated it means “asshole” but rather than using it to call someone a jerk, it is used more to describe a person as an idiot, or a fool. Have you ever seen the show Jackass? Well, chances are that the folks here in Spain would refer to those guys as Gilipollas. Or, why not simply just say “cojones” when you’ve heard something you didn’t like? 2. We can also use cojones to express stress or frustration by saying “estoy hasta los cojones” which means something like “I’ve had it, I’m up to my balls”. Balls can be positive – especially when you say “tienes cojones!” which means “you’ve got balls”. So what does it mean? Well, balls, it means balls. So much so, that most English speakers have heard it and know what it means. Vanilla fudge recipe8/24/2023 This recipe is pretty plain bar the addition of a little vanilla extract (have you ever made your own?) but it is an excellent base to add-in whatever additions you like. It will possibly be the creamiest confection you’ve ever had. If you want to be extra decadent then you could use a small pot of clotted cream (usually 227g each) and make up the volume with double cream or milk. It makes the fudge only ever so slightly less rich but let’s be honest, it otherwise plenty rich enough with all that sugar and butter! I go off piste only to add a little milk to my double cream, mostly because cream is sold in 300ml pots in England and it makes me happy to not have to open another pot. ![]() If you have a stand mixer, the manual labour intensity is minimal – use the flat beater/K-beater attachment and if you have a metal bowl, use that rather than a plastic one as fudge is hot, hot, hot! You can simply beat it with a wooden spoon if not, scraping up the bottom and sides to make sure every last little bit gets a sound thrashing or you will have grainy bits in your fudge (grains make Hulk angry!). ![]() This helps align the sugar crystals and lays the groundwork for a perfectly set fudge. You heat it to the soft ball stage, which is between 113-118˚C (I take it off at 116˚C to prevent it overheating) then allow to cool down a touch before you beat the bejeezus out of it. Traditional fudge is a mix of demerara sugar, double cream, a little liquid glucose and butter. Now it isn’t to say that these aren’t delicious sweet treats, it’s just that after you’ve made as many batches as I have that you’ve had to give away after your first chunk as the texture is all wrong for you, then you’ll see why the pedant in me emerges and I become rather fussy! Problem is, the word “fudge” has been sullied and now is awarded to confections which include microwaving chocolate and condensed milk together then leaving it to set, or doing the same in the slow cooker or adding a few extra bits like butter and more sugar on the hob. If you have ever Googled or rooted around Pinterest looking at glorious images of fudge of every possible flavour, with additions such as chocolate, crumbled cookies, marshmallows, fruit, nuts you name it, the combinations have been well documented. Fatal mistake, there is no such thing as onlyone more chunk of fudge… I want my fudge to melt in the mouth like butter, but have more substance – it should be creamy, rich and make you groan with pleasure as you eat just one more chunk. Problem is, if flaky, crumbly textures make your teeth itch like mine, then you are going to be disappointed in the extreme! There are plenty of recipes out there for tablet and many, many lovers of the stuff but for me, the perfect fudge is soft and luscious, without a grain in sight. Tablet is a Scottish confection which uses double the quantity of sugar that fudge does but otherwise, the method is often very similar. ![]() I’m sure I’m not the only one to have made that mistake when searching for the magic method to deliver creamy fudginess so let me explain. One thing to be clear about from the start is this is fudge, not tablet. ![]() It’s taken a lot of time and a lot of flaky, grainy, unpalatable batches of supposed fudge to find the winning recipe. Proper, traditional, soft & creamy real vanilla fudge. Home 2 suites hilton philadelphia8/24/2023 Beds were comfortable and climate control worked well. The room (2 queen bed pet room) was clean and in excellent shape, something I had worried a little bit about after seeing other reviews. Pros: Staff was flexible and pleasant with us, let us check in an hour early because our room was already ready. Price pretty good for being right downtown with access to public transportation and the sights. Hotel would be great for long business trip with that kitchen. So we walked to the nearby Gayborhood and there was lots of night life there, found a speak easy bar and had some great live music and a drink. We wanted to have nightcap when we got back but that area was pretty quiet late at night other than homeless people sleeping and a gentleman that we thought was not living, we took the time to get him help. umm… overall location was key ! Walk to city hall, market, restaurants, took subway from city hall to the Met for a concert. Other than that it was quiet, comfortable and clean. Especially with trader joes right beneath the place and reading terminal market ! The bathroom door lock was broken so no lock. ![]() Room was decent, clean, there was a full kitchen in there ! Big fridge, dishwasher, dishes ! We were only spending a night so we had no need for that but it was nice. He said it wasn’t ready but went to our room and cleaned it himself ! Thanks John. Well this is mixed, first the down side is we arrived at 4:30 our room was not ready, front desk lady didn’t know when it would be ? We then went to a different front desk gentleman named John. Importantly, it's also one of the larger, more versatile vehicles in the segment and provides more features for the money. Its design is more utilitarian and youthful, eschewing luxury trims like chrome and wood in favor of elements like contrasting roofs and vibrant interior colors. It rides on a different platform from the various 60- and 90-series Volvos, resulting in a car that's a bit more playful to drive, but still possessing the solid, refined feeling one expects from the brand. ![]() State regulatory agencies and political bodies, buying into the arguments propounded by these politically-connected interests, have not only failed to address the problem but are exasperating it.īut California’s natural resources are afforded some protection, as the environmental impacts of all significant state actions must be considered, and to the extent feasible, mitigated and/or avoided. The result is the development of a water delivery regime that increasingly focuses on satisfying the needs and desires of a select group of agribusiness interests, investors, and real estate speculators at the expense of smaller farms, communities, the environment, and the public trust. Powerful agribusiness interests dominate this conversation and have been using the urgency of the drought to solidify their control over water in California. Although the drought has pushed water systems to their limit and has caused extreme harm to communities, fragile ecosystems and endangered species, it has also fueled a long-needed conversation about the state’s water use priorities. The scale of the problem and the stakes at risk beg for solutions, but most energy is focused on making the overuse of water more “efficient,” through technology and the marketplace, instead of reducing the unsustainable and inequitable use of water in the first place.Ĭalifornia’s recent drought has exposed deep problems with the state’s water infrastructure and sharpened conflicts over the state’s limited water supply, particularly between agriculture, ecosystems, and communities. ![]() ![]() This combination has resulted in a misguided and unsustainable attempt to overcome the region’s natural and relatively predictable freshwater scarcity, resulting in tremendous damage to aquatic ecosystems. California is home to many of the largest industrial agricultural operations in the country, along with some of the largest state and federal water projects in the country. Watch eragon movie8/24/2023 The erratic pace of the movie makes no sense, more time is spent showing Saphira learn to fly than is Eragon's time of mourning for his lost uncle. The constant new information is introduced to fast and is reminiscent of children role-playing("It's(the sword) a dragon killer!" "You must pierce a Shade in the heart to kill it." "If a dragon's rider dies, so does the dragon"). To wrap-up it should be stated that the movie is rated PG for a reason, because there's just enough violence that it didn't make G. The fact the intelligent dragon needs a rider in the first place may have fantasy-buffs in wonder. However, like most of the movie, the dragons physical maturation and bond with it's rider goes by too fast and leaves the viewer with an unpleasant longing for more. The dragon's animation is fluid and realistic(although not when Eragon is integrated) and its voice calming yet authoritative. The one upside to the movie was not it's namesake, but the dragon on which Eragon rides, Saphira. Before you know it the final (and first?) battle has been fought and won, and a miserable cliffhanger paves the way for a sequel movie-goers are sure to avoid. A few more poor actors are introduced and the "Darkest Knight"-esquire fumbles onward, sprinting through the most important parts and trudging through meaningless scenes. ![]() Before the audience was done "Aww"-ing at the cute dragonling, it transforms into a full-grown beast and its bond with it's rider is solidified. Soon after Saphira hatches and creates a false sense of hope that the movie may be saved. Roughly ten minutes into the movie the main character's are introduced and killed-off or sent away. From the moment the main character picks up his bow in the opening scene, you can sense the films bad filmography and quick pace will be it's downfall. As 6 to 12-year-olds filled the theater, older members of the audience felt an ominous chill that manifests before the start of a poor movie. Those who enjoyed the masterpiece book "Eragon" were most likely suspicious when the movie's rating was revealed as PG. Readers of the book(such as two of my fellow viewers who reported it horribly inaccurate) will be disappointed by the film's bad acting and poorly-paced chronology(Or may lie to themselves and give it a 10 like 41% of the voters thus far). ![]() Watch Eragon Full Movie on Disney+ Hotstar now. Together they must flee the evil king Galbatorixs forces using the help of Saphira, the dragon. He learns to ride the dragon from a former rider called Brom. But the sum of Halo 2 Anniversary’s parts – most notably a classic campaign that now runs at 60 frames per second – trumps its minor annoyances.” About My Original ReviewThis one has always bothered me. Some parts of the campaign seem unnecessarily dark, for instance, and I don’t agree with all of the choices made on the new art. And while the graphics are up to modern standards in many ways, they’re hardly jaw-dropping. Admittedly, the new facade is a bit rough around the edges – I saw occasional frozen enemies, some framerate dips, and a few long loading screens that jarringly interrupt the pace as the impressive new cutscenes cue up. Like 2011’s Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary is actually running two graphics engines at the same time, allowing you to instantly switch from 2004 graphics to 2014’s Xbox One coat of paint and back again at the touch of a button. Play “I jumped straight to the star of the Master Chief Collection: Halo 2 Anniversary. Here’s what I said about it in my 2014 review, all of which remains true today: Halo 2’s Anniversary treatment, meanwhile – which enhanced both the campaign and a select group of multiplayer maps (everything’s available, though most of it hasn’t gotten the facelift) is holding up nicely. Halo 3, ODST (also new since MCC’s original launch), and Reach are largely unchanged outside of the resolution and framerate bump, and even Combat Evolved looks surprisingly clean, image quality-wise, for an almost 20-year-old game. Halo 4 remains underappreciated, and with its 4K/60fps enhancement it still looks like a recent game on Xbox One X. All of the previously included campaigns have aged gracefully, too. If the rest of the Master Chief Collection’s PC ports are up to this standard, that’ll be excellent news. Audio issues are a bit wonky right now, though, with sound levels for various elements being too loud or too soft, but it’s more of an annoyance. 343’s first PC game feels a lot more natural on mouse and keyboard than when Gearbox brought Halo 1 to PC back in 2003, and offers PC-centric customization options like FOV adjustments. In short, for a nine-year-old game, it still looks quite good after its 4K cleanup on both Xbox One and PC, and it controls beautifully. Ryan's Ranking of the Halo Games (Overall, Campaign + Multiplayer)Īnswer See ResultsA quick word on Halo Reach, as it’s the most recent addition to MCC and the first part of launching the whole package on PC. Furthermore, quality-of-life features such as a Modern Controls option, customizable and highly specific thumbstick dead zone settings, a text chat window, and a bump to 4K and a now-rock-solid 60fps on the Xbox One X highlight how Master Chief Collection feels like a fresh, modern, living entity rather than just a five-year-old package of even older ports held together with Scotch tape and rubber bands. And when the rounds actually started, they were buttery smooth every single time – even in Halo 1, which was never designed for online play. But in every single instance, I always got what I wanted. Even though The Master Chief Collection is available to everybody on Xbox Game Pass and the community is healthy, this isn’t quite like the Halo 2/Halo 3 heyday where everybody and their mother was playing and you could find a game in seconds. ![]() Granted, I did often have to wait, sometimes for up to three minutes.
